Cheng Yu Sun/Wen Xin Zhang (Beijing, CHN) finished 1-2 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sun/Zhang lost 6-4 to Dorottya Palancsa/Zsolt Kiss (Budapest, HUN), droppimg another game, 7-2 to Ying Yang/Zhi Ling (Beijing, CHN) where Sun/Zhang responded with a 10-0 win over Grace Holyoke/John Willsey (Waterloo, ON) in their final qualifying round match.

Sun/Zhang earned 1.703 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, remaining in 668th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 1.702 after improving upon their best so far this season. Sun/Zhang ranks 61st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 37.614 points earned so far this season.
