Ruohonen finished 4-1 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Ruohonen defeated Jason Smith (Blaine , MN) 8-1, then went on to lose 6-5 against Maerki. Ruohonen responded with a 7-2 win over Luc Violette (Chaska, MN). Ruohonen won 6-3 against Scott Dunnam (Philadelphia, PA), then won 6-2 against Dropkin in their final qualifying round match.
