In their opening game, Lawless defeated Kimberly Wapola (St. Paul, MN) 6-4, then won 7-4 against Debra Horn (Burbank, OH) and 7-6 against Patti Lank (Lewiston, NY). Lawless went on to lose 7-6 against Margie Smith (Shoreview, MN). Lawless lost 8-7 to Beth Bohlman (Grand Forks, ND) in their final qualifying round match.
