Rich Ruohonen (Chaska, USA) lost 8-4 to John Shuster (Duluth, USA) in the Final of the USA Curling National Championships, held February 9 - 16, 2019 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. To advance to the championship game, Ruohonen won 6-5 over Todd Birr (Blaine, MN) in the semifinals of the 2019 USA Curling National Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan;
Ruohonen finished 8-1 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Ruohonen defeated Birr 9-5, then won 9-3 against Jed Brundidge (St. Paul, MN) and 8-3 against Mark Fenner (Chaska, USA). Ruohonen won 5-2 against Brandon Corbett (Rochester, NY). Ruohonen went on to lose 8-3 against Shuster. Ruohonen responded with a 9-2 win over Samuel Strouse (Midland, MI). Ruohonen won 7-6 against Scott Dunnam (Dresher, PA), then won 8-2 against Steven Birklid (Seattle, WA) and 9-6 against Chase Sinnett (Medfield, MA) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the USA Curling National Championships, Ruohonen take home 28.936 world rankings points. For week 27 of the event schedule, Ruohonen did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Ruohonen ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
