Kevin Kakela (Hansboro, ND) finished 2-3 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kakela defeated Brandon Corbett (Rochester, NY) 12-5, then went on to lose 10-4 against Steve Birklid (Seattle, WA). Kakela lost 5-4 to Craig Nicko (Blaine, MN) where Kakela responded with a 7-5 win over Darryl Sobering (Denver, CO). Kakela went on to lose 13-6 against Nicholas Steinhaus (Mapleton, MN) in their final qualifying round match.

Kakela earned 1.238 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, moving up 32 spots the World Ranking Standings into 326th place overall with 4.336 total points. Kakela ranks 294th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 3.862 points earned so far this season.
