In their opening game, Iwai lost 6-1 to Yannick Schwaller (Bern, SUI), droppimg another game, 6-4 to Mark Fenner (Chaska, USA). Iwai lost 5-4 to Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE). Iwai lost 8-3 to Schwaller where Iwai responded with a 8-2 win over Fenner. Iwai went on to lose 7-2 against Edin in their final qualifying round match.
