Sam Mooibroek (Toronto, ON) finished 5-0 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Mooibroek defeated Damian Gorman (Toronto, ON) 4-2, then won 7-3 against Eric Fenech (Toronto, ON) and 6-3 against Andrew McDonald (Midland, MI). Mooibroek won 8-1 against Hang Qu (Harbin, CHN), then won 6-2 against Joey Hart (Ajax, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
