Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB) lost 6-5 to Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, NONT) in the Final of the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1, held November 6 - 11, 2018 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. To advance to the championship game, Bottcher won 5-2 over Glenn Howard (Penetanguishe, ON) in the semifinals of the 2018 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 in Thunder Bay, Ontario; and won 5-1 over Rich Ruohonen (Chaska, USA) in the quarterfinals. of the 2018 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 in Thunder Bay, Ontario;
 
Bottcher finished 3-1 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Bottcher lost 5-4 to Jacobs, then responded with a 5-4 win over Howard. Bottcher won 8-1 against Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB), then won 7-4 against Braden Calvert (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1, Bottcher take home 58.077 world rankings points along with the $15,000CDN prize, moving up 3 spots the World Ranking Standings into 7th place overall with 370.639 total points. Bottcher ranks 6th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 172.470 points earned so far this season.
