To advance to the championship game, Carruthers won 9-7 over Rich Ruohonen (Chaska, USA) in the semifinals of the 2019 Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic presented by The Lodge Sasquatch Kitchen in Tempe, Arizona, United States; and won 7-5 over 's Jeremy Harty in the quarterfinals.
 
Carruthers finished 4-0 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Carruthers defeated 's Bob Leclair 9-1, then won 7-3 against Chris Bond (Seattle, WA) and 9-2 against Edward Scimia (Bridgeport, CT). Carruthers won 6-2 against Jim Cotter (Vernon, BC) in their final qualifying round match.
