To advance to the championship game, McCormick won 8-1 over Todd Birr (Blaine, MN) in the semifinals of the 2018 USA Men's National Championship in Fargo, North Dakota;
McCormick finished 8-1 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McCormick defeated Scott Dunnam (Philadelphia, PA) 11-4, then went on to lose 8-3 against Ruohonen. McCormick responded with a 6-2 win over Birr. McCormick won 5-4 against Kroy Nernberger (Blaine, MN), then won 7-3 against Tucker Smith (Bismarck, ND) and 5-4 against Pete Fenson (Bemidji, MN). McCormick won 10-3 against Jed Brundidge (Sioux Falls, SD), then won 9-4 against Alex Leichter (Boston, MA) and 8-3 against Nicholas Connolly (Seattle, WA) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the USA Men's National Championship, McCormick take home 26.491 world rankings points. McCormick move up 2 spots after posting a net gain of 24.003 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 19th overall with 336.958 total points on the World Ranking Standings.
