Ferland finished 8-1 in the 14-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Ferland defeated Marcel Marchand (Grand-Mere, QC) 7-2, then won 8-6 against Vincent Roberge (Levis, QC) and 6-1 against Vincent Bourget (Buckingham, QC). Ferland won 9-4 against Mark Homan (Baie d'Urfe, QC), then won 8-7 against Yannick Martel (Saguenay, QC) and 7-2 against Jean-Sebastien Roy (Chicoutimi, QC). Ferland won 7-4 against Jeffrey Stewart (Montreal, QC). Ferland went on to lose 10-5 against Jean-Michel Menard (Gatineau, QC). Ferland responded with a 7-2 win over Fournier in their final qualifying round match.
