After advancing directly to the championship game, Tanner Horgan (Sudbury, NONT) lost 8-4 to Tyler Tardi (Langley, BC) in the Final of the New Holland Canadian Junior Mens Championship, held January 13 - 21, 2018 in Shawinigan, Quebec.
Horgan finished 8-2 in the 14-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Horgan defeated Karsten Sturmay (Edmonton, AB) 6-5, then won 8-4 against Alex MacFadyen (Summerside, PEI) and 11-3 against Daniel Bruce (Corner Brook, NL). Horgan won 8-3 against Sawer Kaeser (Fort Smith, NT), then won 17-3 against Javen Komaksiutiksak (Iqaluit, NU) and 8-4 against Matthew Hall (Kitcher-Waterloo, ON). Horgan won 6-4 against JT Ryan (Winnipeg, MB), then won 7-3 against Alek Bedard (Lacolle, QC). Horgan went on to lose 7-4 against Matthew Manuel (Halifax, NS). Horgan lost 6-5 to Tardi in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the New Holland Canadian Junior Mens Championship, Horgan take home 21.833 world rankings points. For week 24 of the event schedule, Horgan did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Horgan ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
