John Shuster (Duluth, USA) finished 5-4 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Shuster defeated Chang-Min Kim (Uiseong, KOR) 11-7, then went on to lose 10-9 against Joel Retornaz (Trentino, ITA). Shuster lost 10-4 to Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) where Shuster responded with a 9-5 win over Rasmus Stjerne (Hvidovre, DEN). Shuster went on to lose 8-2 against Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN). Shuster lost 8-5 to Thomas Ulsrud (Oslo, NOR) where Shuster responded with a 9-7 win over Kevin Koe (Calgary, CAN). Shuster won 8-4 against Peter De Cruz (Geneva, SUI), then won 10-4 against Kyle Smith (Perth, UK) in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the Pyeongchang Winter Games - Men Championship title, Shuster earned 105.788 world rankings points. Shuster move up 8 spots after posting a net gain of 102.61 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 13th overall with 415.288 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Shuster ranks 10th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 238.609 points earned so far this season.
