John Willsey (Ottawa, ON) finished 5-1 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Willsey defeated Theo Ducroz (Chamonix, FRA) 11-1, then went on to lose 6-2 against Tanner Horgan (Sudbury, NONT). Willsey responded with a 6-3 win over Greg Blyde (St. John's, NL). Willsey won 4-3 against Jan Hess (Zug, SUI), then won 5-4 against JT Ryan (Winnipeg, MB) and 5-4 against Horgan in their final qualifying round match.
