Junpei Kanda (Tokyo, JPN) qualified for the 2017 Karuizawa International playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 6-3 against Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN).

Kanda finished 2-2 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kanda lost 5-1 to Patric Mabergs (Skelleftea, SWE), droppimg another game, 6-4 to Chang-Min Kim (Uiseong, KOR) where Kanda responded with a 5-4 win over Hiromu Otani (kitami, JPN). Kanda won 6-3 against Hiromitsu Kuriyama (Nagano, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.

Kanda earned 12.206 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the Karuizawa International, moving up 171 spots the World Ranking Standings into 218th place overall with 15.084 total points. Kanda ranks 157th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 12.961 points earned so far this season.
