Kyle Smith (Perth, SCO) lost 4-3 to Marc Pfister (Adelboden, SUI) in the Final of the German Masters, held January 19 - 21, 2018 in Hamburg, Germany. To advance to the championship game, Smith won 6-1 over Alexander Baumann (Baden-Baden, GER) in the semifinals of the 2018 German Masters in Hamburg, Germany; and won 7-2 over Yves Hess (Zug, SUI) in the quarterfinals.
 
Smith finished 4-0 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Smith defeated Stefan Staehli (Bern, SUI) 5-4, then won 6-3 against Sebastian Wunderer (Kitzbuhel, AUT) and 5-4 against Klaudius Harsch (Hamberg, GER). Smith won 5-4 against Yannick Schwaller (Bern, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the German Masters, Smith take home 24.977 world rankings points along with the $4,592CDN prize, remaining in 9th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 23.952 after improving upon their best so far this season. Smith ranks 15th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 171.641 points earned so far this season.
