Rui Liu (Harbin, CHN) qualified for the 2017 Original 16 WCT Bonspiel playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 7-6 against Stuart Thompson (Dartmouth, NS).

Liu finished 3-0 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Liu defeated Mike Hutchings (Morinville, AB) 6-3, then won 6-5 against Josh Lambden (Calgary, AB) and 6-2 against Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO) in their final qualifying round match.

Liu earned 13.630 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the Original 16 WCT Bonspiel, remaining in 16th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 309.205 total points. Liu ranks 8th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 176.672 points earned so far this season.
