David Murdoch (Lockerbie, SCO) won 10-4 over Bruce Mouat (Edinburgh, SCO) in the Final of the Scottish Curling Championships, held February 18 - 25, 2017 in Perth, Scotland.
Murdoch finished 7-2 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Murdoch defeated Stuart Taylor (Glasgow, SCO) 4-2, then went on to lose 10-7 against Grant Hardie (Dumfries, SCO). Murdoch responded with a 7-5 win over Kyle Smith (Stirling, SCO). Murdoch went on to lose 7-5 against Ross Whyte (Dumfries, SCO). Murdoch responded with a 9-2 win over Mouat. Murdoch won 5-3 against Ally Fraser (Inverness, SCO), then won 8-6 against Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO) and 6-4 against Scott Hamilton (Glasgow, SCO). Murdoch won 9-1 against Chay Telfer (Glasgow, SCO) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Scottish Curling Championships Championship title, Murdoch earned 39.681 world rankings points. Murdoch move up 2 spots after posting a net gain of 37.124 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 10th overall with 460.356 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Murdoch ranks 15th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 189.120 points earned so far this season.
