In their opening game, Clawson lost 9-3 to John Shuster (Duluth, USA), then responded with a 8-3 win over Darryl Sobering (Denver, CO). Clawson went on to lose 7-3 against Brady Clark (Seattle, WA). Clawson responded with a 5-4 win over Craig Brown (Blaine, USA). Clawson went on to lose 8-7 against Todd Birr (Blaine, MN). Clawson lost 8-2 to Heath McCormick (Blaine, USA). Clawson lost 7-4 to Pete Fenson (Bemidji, MN) where Clawson responded with a 8-6 win over Stephen Dropkin (Minneapolis, MN). Clawson won 10-5 against Alex Leichter (Boston, MA) in their final qualifying round match.

Clawson earned 5.891 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, moving up 7 spots the World Ranking Standings into 112th place overall with 53.239 total points. Clawson ranks 115th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 28.887 points earned so far this season.
