Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB) won 8-6 over Mark Nichols (St. John's, NL) in the Final of the Home Hardware Canada Cup of Curling, held November 30 - December 4, 2016 in Brandon, Manitoba. To advance to the championship game, Carruthers won 6-5 over John Epping (Toronto, ON) in the semifinals of the 2016 Home Hardware Canada Cup of Curling in Brandon, Manitoba;
Carruthers finished 4-2 in the 7-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Carruthers defeated Epping 8-3, then went on to lose 7-6 against Nichols. Carruthers responded with a 7-6 win over Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB). Carruthers won 4-3 against Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB). Carruthers went on to lose 5-3 against Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK). Carruthers responded with a 5-1 win over Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Home Hardware Canada Cup of Curling Championship title, Carruthers earned 84.126 world rankings points along with the $22,000CDN first prize cheque. Carruthers move up 2 spots after posting a net gain of 80.803 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 2nd overall with 742.527 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Carruthers ranks 3rd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 344.683 points earned so far this season.
