In their opening game, Gulbis defeated Sebastian Wunderer (Kitzbuhel, AUT) 10-2, then won 8-2 against Switzerland's Fritz Oswald. Gulbis went on to lose 5-2 against Bjorn Jungen (Adelboden, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.
