Karsten Sturmay (Edmonton, AB) finished 2-1 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sturmay defeated Chang-Min Kim (Uiseong, KOR) 5-3, then went on to lose 10-1 against Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN). Sturmay responded with a 4-3 win over Alexander Baumann (Hamburg, GER) in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the Hokkaido Bank Curling Classic Championship title, Sturmay earned 13.857 world rankings points along with the $6,439CDN first prize cheque. Sturmay gained 16.98 points improving upon their best events, though dropped 141 spots on the World Ranking Standings into 141stplace overall with 16.980 total points. Sturmay ranks 1st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 13.857 points earned so far this season.
