To advance to the championship game, Thompson won 8-4 over Jamie Murphy (Halifax, NS) in the semifinals of the 2016 Lakeshore Curling Club Cashspiel in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia; and won 8-4 over Kendal Thompson (Halifax, NS) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 Lakeshore Curling Club Cashspiel in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia;
Thompson finished 4-1 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Thompson defeated Matt Jackson (Halifax, NS) 4-2, then won 9-3 against Mike Flemming (Halifax, NS). Thompson went on to lose 4-3 against Paul Dexter (Halifax, NS). Thompson responded with a 6-0 win over Stevens. Thompson won 7-1 against Robert Mayhew (Halifax, NS) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Lakeshore Curling Club Cashspiel Championship title, Thompson earned 16.362 world rankings points along with the $1,400CDN first prize cheque, moving up 4 spots the World Ranking Standings into 54th place overall with 74.431 total points. Thompson ranks 40th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 16.362 points earned so far this season.
