Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO) won 4-3 over David Murdoch (Stirling, SCO) in the Final of the Karuizawa International, held December 15 - 18, 2016 in Karuizawa, Japan.
Brewster finished 4-0 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Brewster defeated Taiki Natsuizaka (Aomori City, JPN) 5-3, then won 6-4 against Ryo Ogihara (Karuizawa, JPN) and 8-5 against SooHyuk Kim (Gangwon, KOR). Brewster won 4-3 against Yuya Takigahira (Sapporo, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Karuizawa International Championship title, Brewster earned 29.295 world rankings points along with the $11,311CDN first prize cheque, remaining in 18th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 28.013 after improving upon their best so far this season. Brewster ranks 19th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 138.492 points earned so far this season.
