To advance to the championship game, Sobering won 7-2 over Greg Eigner (Kalamazoo, MI) in the semifinals of the Kalamazoo Classic in Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States;
 
Sobering finished 2-0 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sobering defeated Stu Cohen (Columbus, OH) 6-1, then won 4-3 against Andrew McDonald (Midland, MI) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Kalamazoo Classic, Sobering take home 5.184 world rankings points along with the $928CDN prize, moving up 151 spots the World Ranking Standings into 279th place overall with 5.872 total points.
