Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) won 5-4 over Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB) in the Final of the Direct Horizontal Drilling Fall Classic, held October 7 - 10, 2016 at the Crestwood Curling Club in Edmonton, Canada. To advance to the championship game, Laycock won 7-4 over John Morris (Vernon, BC) in the semifinals of the 2016 Direct Horizontal Drilling Fall Classic in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; and won 8-5 over Jason Gunnlaugson (Winnipeg, MB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 Direct Horizontal Drilling Fall Classic in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada;
 
Laycock finished 3-0 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Laycock defeated Jamie King (Edmonton/Calgary, AB) 5-3, then won 6-5 against Bruce Korte (Saskatoon , SK) and 5-3 against Ted Appelman (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Direct Horizontal Drilling Fall Classic Championship title, Laycock earned 60.047 world rankings points along with the $12,000CDN first prize cheque, remaining in 8th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 426.984 total points. Laycock ranks 11th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 102.972 points earned so far this season.
