Michael Fournier (Montreal, QC) lost 6-1 to Jean-Michel Menard (Gatineau, QC) in the Final of the Capital Curling Classic, held October 7 - 10, 2016 in Ottawa, Ontario. To advance to the championship game, Fournier won 6-3 over Mathieu Beaufort (Sorel-Tracy, QC) in the semifinals of the 2016 Capital Curling Classic in Ottawa, Ontario; and won 7-2 over Mark Homan (Montreal, QC) in the quarterfinals.
 
Fournier finished 3-0 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Fournier defeated Pat Ferris (Grimsby, ON) 9-3, then won 7-6 against Homan and 4-2 against Benoit Vezeau (Montreal, QC) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Capital Curling Classic, Fournier take home 17.804 world rankings points along with the $2,600CDN prize, moving up 14 spots the World Ranking Standings into 59th place overall with 69.035 total points. Fournier ranks 30th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 38.999 points earned so far this season.
