To advance to the championship game, Smith won 5-4 over Ontario's Chris Gardner in the semifinals of the 2016 Oakville OCT Fall Classic in Oakville, Ontario, Canada; and won 8-4 over Ontario's Dayna Deruelle in the quarterfinals.
 
Smith finished 4-0 in the 25-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Smith defeated Todd Birr (Blaine, USA) 4-2, then won 6-3 against Pat Ferris (Grimsby, ON) and 8-4 against Greg Balsdon (Kingston, ON). Smith won 6-2 against Hugh Murphy (Oakville, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Oakville OCT Fall Classic Championship title, Smith earned 39.136 world rankings points along with the $3,000CDN first prize cheque, moving up 1 spots the World Ranking Standings into 18th place overall with 189.505 total points. Smith ranks 1st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 61.006 points earned so far this season.
