Eve Muirhead (Perth, SCO) won 8-6 over Margaretha Sigfridsson (Skelleftea, SWE) in the Final of the Womens Masters Basel, held October 7 - 9, 2016 in Basel, Switzerland. To advance to the championship game, Muirhead won 8-3 over Hannah Fleming (Lockerbie, SCO) in the semifinals of the 2016 Womens Masters Basel in Basel, Switzerland; and won 7-5 over Anna Kubeskova (Prague, CZE) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 Womens Masters Basel in Basel, Switzerland;
Muirhead finished 4-2 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Muirhead defeated Isabelle Maillard (Uitikon, SUI) 4-1, then won 6-2 against Chiaki Matsumura (Karuizawa, JPN). Muirhead went on to lose 7-4 against EunJung Kim (Uiseong, KOR). Muirhead lost 5-2 to Anna Sidorova (Moscow, RUS) where Muirhead responded with a 5-4 win over Matsumura. Muirhead won 6-5 against Melanie Barbezat (Biel, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Womens Masters Basel Championship title, Muirhead earned 56.676 world rankings points along with the $13,406CDN first prize cheque, moving up 1 spots the World Ranking Standings into 4th place overall with 451.827 total points. Muirhead ranks 2nd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 146.678 points earned so far this season.
