To advance to the championship game, Liu won 6-3 over Yannick Schwaller (Bern, SUI) in the semifinals of the 2017 CCT Aberdeen International Curling Championship in Aberdeen, Scotland; and won 7-2 over Gustav Eskilsson (Skellefte�, SWE) in the quarterfinals. of the 2017 CCT Aberdeen International Curling Championship in Aberdeen, Scotland;
 
Liu finished 4-2 in the 28-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Liu defeated Alexey Stukalskiy (Moscow, RUS) 6-4, then went on to lose 6-4 against David Murdoch (Stirling, SCO). Liu lost 7-6 to Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO) where Liu responded with a 7-2 win over Andrew Hutcheon (Aberdeen, SCO). Liu won 6-5 against Joel Retornaz (Trentino, ITA), then won 4-3 against Magnus Ramsfjell (Jar, NOR) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the CCT Aberdeen International Curling Championship, Liu take home 34.179 world rankings points along with the $4,973CDN prize. Liu move up 7 spots after posting a net gain of 31.992 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 27th overall with 251.147 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Liu ranks 24th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 153.885 points earned so far this season.
