To advance to the championship game, Nernberger won 5-4 over Todd Birr (Blaine, MN) in the semifinals of the 2016 St. Paul Cash Spiel in St. Paul; and won 7-4 over John Shuster (Duluth, USA) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 St. Paul Cash Spiel in St. Paul;
 
Nernberger finished 4-0 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Nernberger defeated Jeremy Hozjan (Charlotte, NC) 5-4, then won 5-2 against Mike Farbelow (Plymouth, MN) and 8-2 against Bill Stopera (New York, NY). Nernberger won 5-1 against Northern Ontario's Trevor Bonot in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the St. Paul Cash Spiel, Nernberger take home 18.468 world rankings points along with the $2,636CDN prize. For week 8 of the event schedule, Nernberger did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Nernberger ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
