Greg Balsdon (Kingston, ON) won 5-4 over Glenn Howard (Penetanguishene, ON) in the Final of the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 2, held November 8 - 13, 2016 in Cranbrook, British Columbia. To advance to the championship game, Balsdon won 4-2 over Dean Joanisse (Maple Ridge, BC) in the semifinals of the 2016 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 2 in Cranbrook, British Columbia; and won 5-4 over Mark Bice (Sarnia, ON) in the quarterfinals.
Balsdon finished 4-0 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Balsdon defeated Brady Clark (Seattle, USA) 7-4, then won 6-4 against Bruce Mouat (Stirlng, SCO) and 7-1 against Jason Gunnlaugson (Winnipeg, MB). Balsdon won 7-1 against Sean Geall (Kelowna, BC) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 2 Championship title, Balsdon earned 47.293 world rankings points along with the $10,000CDN first prize cheque. Balsdon move up 2 spots after posting a net gain of 46.381 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 20th overall with 231.985 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Balsdon ranks 13th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 134.124 points earned so far this season.
