Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) won 7-3 over Kyle Smith (Stirling, SCO) in the Final of the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1, held November 8 - 13, 2016 in Cranbrook, British Columbia. To advance to the championship game, Edin won 6-4 over Mark Nichols (St. John's, NL) in the semifinals of the 2016 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 in Cranbrook, British Columbia; and won 9-1 over John Morris (Vernon, BC) in the quarterfinals.
Edin finished 2-2 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Edin lost 9-6 to Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK), droppimg another game, 6-2 to Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) where Edin responded with a 6-5 win over John Shuster (Duluth, USA). Edin won 5-4 against Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 Championship title, Edin earned 83.992 world rankings points along with the $20,000CDN first prize cheque, moving up 2 spots the World Ranking Standings into 3rd place overall with 663.685 total points. Edin ranks 1st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 427.359 points earned so far this season.
