Sijia Liu (Harbin, CHN) lost 6-1 to Krista McCarville (Thunder Bay, NONT) in the Final of the ASHAM U.S. Open of Curling, held January 1 - 4, 2016 at the Four Seasons Curling Club in Blaine, United States. To advance to the championship game, Liu won 8-5 over Nina Roth (Blaine, USA) in the semifinals of the 2016 ASHAM U.S. Open of Curling in Blaine, Minnesota, United States; and won 4-3 over Chelsea Carey (Calgary, AB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 ASHAM U.S. Open of Curling in Blaine, Minnesota, United States;
Liu finished 2-2 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Liu defeated Brett Barber (Biggar, SK) 7-1, then went on to lose 7-1 against Roth. Liu lost 7-2 to Minnesota's Courtney George where Liu responded with a 7-2 win over Jo-Ann Rizzo (Coldwater, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the ASHAM U.S. Open of Curling, Liu take home 32.192 world rankings points along with the $5,559CDN prize. For week 20 of the event schedule, Liu did not improve upon their best events, remaining at 226th place on the World Ranking Standings with 1.969 total points. Liu ranks 190th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 1.969 points earned so far this season.
