Deruelle finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Deruelle lost 7-2 to Tuck Jr., then responded with a 7-4 win over Patrick Morris (Toronto, ON). Deruelle won 6-2 against Scott Ferguson (London, ON), then won 5-4 against Jon St. Denis (Stouffville, ON) and 4-2 against Rob Lobel (Tara, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Port Elgin Superspiel Championship title, Deruelle earned 18.244 world rankings points along with the $5,500CDN first prize cheque, moving up 8 spots the World Ranking Standings into 56th place overall with 74.945 total points.
