Carruthers finished 3-1 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Carruthers defeated Bruce Mouat (Edinburgh, SCO) 8-4, then won 7-3 against John Shuster (Duluth, USA) and 7-2 against Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE). Carruthers went on to lose 6-3 against Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) in their final qualifying round match.
