To advance to the championship game, Muirhead won 7-2 over Silvana Tirinzoni (Aarau PwC, SUI) in the semifinals of the 2016 Players' Championship in Toronto, Ontario; and won 12-4 over Erika Brown (Madison, WI) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 Players' Championship in Toronto, Ontario;

Muirhead finished 4-1 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Muirhead defeated Alina Paetz (Zurich, SUI) 6-5, then went on to lose 8-5 against Kelsey Rocque (Edmonton, AB). Muirhead responded with a 4-3 win over Val Sweeting (Edmonton, AB). Muirhead won 7-4 against Jones, then won 5-4 against Anna Sidorova (Moscow, RUS) in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the Players' Championship Championship title, Muirhead earned 76.808 world rankings points along with the $26,000CDN first prize cheque. Muirhead move up 1 spots after posting a net gain of 53.892 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 3rd overall with 767.200 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Muirhead ranks 4th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 347.190 points earned so far this season.
