In their opening game, Kitchens defeated Greg Wilson (Northbrook, IL) 7-4, then won 7-6 against Nick Myers (Dallas / Fort Worth, TX) and 9-8 against Leo Johnson (Fairbanks, AK). Kitchens went on to lose 7-3 against Andrew Stopera (Ardsley, NY). Kitchens lost 9-8 to Tim Gartner (St. Paul, MN). Kitchens lost 8-3 to Scott Strouse (Midland, MI).
