Virtue finished 3-1 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Virtue defeated Rick Phillips (Red Deer, AB) 6-0, then won 5-4 against Freisz. Virtue went on to lose 6-4 against Alexey Tselousov (St-Petersburg, RUS). Virtue responded with a 9-5 win over Kim in their final qualifying round match.
