Kim finished 3-0 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kim defeated Mike Hutchings (Morinville, AB) 7-3, then won 6-5 against Thomas Usselman (Calgary, AB) and 3-2 against Karsten Sturmay (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Avonair Cash Spiel Championship title, Kim earned 3.000 world rankings points along with the $3,000CDN first prize cheque, moving up 4 spots the World Ranking Standings into 44th place overall with 26.333 total points.
