In their opening game, Sweeting defeated Leslie Rogers (Edmonton, AB) 7-1, then won 7-6 against Kristie Moore (Edmonton, AB) and 8-5 against Brenda Doroshuk (Edmonton, AB). Sweeting won 6-4 against Chantelle Eberle (Regina, SK), then won 4-3 against Cissi Ostlund (Karlstad, SWE) in their final qualifying round match.
