To advance to the championship game, Laycock won 7-5 over Brock Virtue (Calgary, AB) in the semifinals of the 2014 HDF Insurance Shoot-Out in Edmonton, Alberta; and won 5-4 over Jamie King (Edmonton, AB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2014 HDF Insurance Shoot-Out in Edmonton, Alberta;
Laycock finished 3-2 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Laycock defeated Warren Cross (Edmonton, AB) 6-2, then went on to lose 8-2 against King. Laycock responded with a 8-6 win over Wade White (Edmonton, AB). Laycock went on to lose 4-3 against Virtue. Laycock responded with a 4-3 win over Thomas Scoffin (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the HDF Insurance Shoot-Out, Laycock take home 7.385 world rankings points along with the $4,000CDN prize, remaining in 12th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 109.447 total points. Laycock ranks 13th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 10.297 points earned so far this season.
