Liu won 8-4 against Pete Fenson (Bemidji, USA), then won 6-4 against Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN). Liu went on to lose 6-5 against Oskar Eriksson (Lit, SWE) in their final qualifying round match.

Liu earned 12.000 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. Liu move up 1 spots after posting a net gain of 4.25 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 13th overall with 179.680 total points on the World Ranking Standings.
