Hess finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Hess lost 5-2 to Kevin Marsh (Saskatoon, SK), then responded with a 6-5 win over Joel Jordison (Regina, SK). Hess won 5-1 against Jeff Hartung (Langenburg, SK), then won 4-1 against Bruce Korte (Saskatoon, SK) and 5-4 against Peter de Cruz (Geneva, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Whites Drug Store Classic Championship title, Hess earned 12.750 world rankings points along with the $11,000CDN first prize cheque, moving up 9 spots the World Ranking Standings into 32nd place overall with 48.660 total points.
