In their opening game, Mielke defeated Jeff Puleo (Forest Lake, MN) 10-1, then went on to lose 4-2 against Todd Birr (Mankato, MN). Mielke responded with a 9-1 win over Steve Birklid (Seattle, WA). Mielke went on to lose 8-3 against Owen Sampson (Edmore, ND). Mielke lost 8-0 to Mike Farbelow (Minneapolis, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
