In their opening game, Walsh lost 7-6 to Jacki Temple (Pittsburgh, PA), then responded with a 9-1 win over Karen Luckey (Bellmore, NY). Walsh won 11-2 against Denise Lampkins (Fort Wayne, IN), then won 8-5 against Julie Tsamoutales (Richmond, VA) and 8-2 against Anne Wiggins (Greenville, SC) in their final qualifying round match.
