McEwen finished 4-1 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen lost 6-4 to Kurt Balderston (Grande Prairie, AB), then responded with a 8-3 win over Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB). McEwen won 4-3 against Rob Fowler (Brandon, MB), then won 7-4 against Charley Thomas (Calgary, AB) and 4-0 against Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Pomeroy Inn & Suites Prairie Showdown, McEwen take home 17.900 world rankings points along with the $10,000CDN prize, remaining in 2nd place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 2.9 after improving upon their best so far this season. McEwen ranks 4th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 178.460 points earned so far this season.
