To advance to the championship game, Kean won 8-5 over Ontario's Jake Higgs in the semifinals of the 2012 Mount Lawn Gord Carroll Classic in Whitby, Ontario, Canada; and won 6-5 over Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) in the quarterfinals.
 
Kean finished 5-2 in the 31-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kean defeated Mike Anderson (Markham, ON) 7-6, then won 6-3 against Ontario's Greg Balsdon. Kean went on to lose 5-3 against Edin. Kean responded with a 7-6 win over Ontario's Don Bowser. Kean won 7-6 against Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste. Marie, ON). Kean went on to lose 7-3 against John Epping (Toronto, ON). Kean responded with a 6-5 win over Peter Corner (Brampton, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Mount Lawn Gord Carroll Classic, Kean take home 22.550 world rankings points along with the $4,000CDN prize, moving up 4 spots the World Ranking Standings into 11th place overall with 135.371 total points. Kean ranks 4th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 87.810 points earned so far this season.
