Fowler finished 3-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Fowler defeated Steve Petryk (Calgary, AB) 5-4, then won 6-5 against Sweden's Niklas Edin. Fowler went on to lose 6-1 against Kevin Martin (Edmonton, AB). Fowler responded with a 8-2 win over Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) in their final qualifying round match.
