Jim Cotter (Kelowna/Vernon, BC) qualified for the 2012 Westcoast Curling Classic playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 6-2 against Andrew Bilesky (Vancouver , BC). of the 2012 Westcoast Curling Classic in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada;

Cotter finished 3-2 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Cotter lost 7-5 to Charley Thomas (Calgary, AB), then responded with a 6-2 win over Steve Petryk (Calgary, AB). Cotter won 4-2 against Brock Virtue (Regina, SK). Cotter went on to lose 7-4 against Bilesky. Cotter responded with a 6-2 win over Randie Shen (Taipei, TPE) in their final qualifying round match.

Cotter earned 8.125 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the Westcoast Curling Classic, remaining in 18th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 79.984 total points. Cotter ranks 24th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 16.475 points earned so far this season.
